Is furry a real fandom? A recurring theme on Paul's furry post is that furry is a fake fandom. But is it?
A fandom is a subculture composed of fans characterized by a feeling of empathy and camaraderie with others who share a common interest. - Wikipedia
the state or condition of being a fan of someone or something.
the fans of a particular person, team, fictional series, etc. regarded collectively as a community or subculture. - Dictionary
What is a furry?
Furry - an enthusiast for animal characters with human characteristics, in particular, a person who dresses up in costume as such a character or uses one as an avatar online.
Furry Fandom - a subculture interested in anthropomorphic animal characters with human personalities and characteristics.
Knowing all of this is furry a fake fandom? No. Furry acts and behaves like most other fandoms the only difference is furry is more of a creator-driven fandom. I do not understand what Paul thinks furries are. He seems to be under the impression that furries are some sort of bizarre internet cult of some kind.
Since you seem to be confused with the term fursuit let me help here.
Fursuit - costume
Fursuiter - Person that owns the costume
Fursuiting - wearing the costume
Yes, Paul, every fandom has its own terminology rules and mini cultures.
