Very good its a fandom or subculture. However, a cult could be a person or thing that is popular or fashionable, especially among a particular section of society. Depending on how you defined a cult anything could be one.
it’s not a fun tradition, like say, Halloween.
I am shocked a Christian would think the devil's holiday would be fun. I grew up with harvest festivals. Hayrides were fun Halloween was not a day the good Christian would celebrate.
But it is fun what I find fun you might not. For example, working on cars and electronics is fun for me.
Neither is it a hobby, another Fandom red herring.
How? While it is a fandom it can be considered a hobby since its something to do to pass the time.
Being a Trekker or Trekking involves dressing up, but that’s a hobby.
Being a furry involves enjoying anthro animals. Now Trekker could mean the star treck fandom. Or you could mean hiker with either way is just another hobby and interest.
The Furry Fandom is a lifestyle known as “fursuiting” or being a “fursuiter.”
This is the level of research we are dealing with isn't is?
- Furry - an enthusiast for animal characters with human characteristics,
- Fursuit - The costume
- Fursuiting - Wearing the costume
- Fursuiter - Person that owns a fursuit
It is a subculture with its own lifestyle. It is thousands of people worldwide (if not millions) united and connected by an idea that involves a modus operandi lifestyle.
This is basically someone's dad who just discovered what a fandom is not furry but fandoms in general.
In addition, Fandom is not an institution which also involves authority.
Something tells me this dude love authority in a terian kinda way if you know what I am saying.
Fursuiters are united and follow suit (no pun intended)
I don't believe this one bit this was definitely intended.
Fursuiters are united and follow suit (no pun intended) according to its lifestyle principles,
Like a fandom. I think I am starting to see a pattern.
There are cottage businesses that profit from Fandom, like those who make the costumes, but there is no central authority.
True costumes and art are big business.
That is a Segway into the cardinal point of this particular post. Many who research this movement as detractors refer to it as the perfect storm of deception.
Who?
Secondly, initial exposure to the group will usually result in it being dismissed as some sort of fun tradition like Halloween
I don't know anyone who thought of it like that closer is usually comic cons or dragon con.
Halloween is not a lifestyle.
Laughs in spooky
